Ingredients
1cupold fashioned oats(see notes)
1cupwater
1cupwhole milk
¼teaspoonsalt
⅓cupjaggery(see notes)
½cupblueberries
¼cupchopped walnuts
Instructions
Add the oats, water, milk, and salt to a saucepan and cook on high heat until the mixture bubbles.
Turn the heat to low, cover, and cook for 5 minutes. (see notes)
Turn the heat off, mix in the jaggery, cover and let the oatmeal sit for 5 minutes.
Serve with the blueberries and walnuts.
Notes
The oats: Do not use quick-cooking or instant oats, as the resulting texture will be paste-like.The Jaggery: Also known as shakkar, this is a South Asian unrefined cane sugar with a molasses-like flavor. If you have trouble sourcing it, the best alternative is dark brown sugar.Cooking the oatmeal: Turn the stove off after 5 minutes to ensure a creamy texture.
